Are stickers waterproof?

A common question we get asked is are the stickers you make waterproof? Will they last outside in the rain? In short, YES!!! We print waterproof stickers that will last years outside, even in the toughest outdoor conditions we often experience here in New Zealand.

As an example, some of our customers are ski resorts who sell stickers in their retail shops as souvenirs – these get plastered on skis and snowboards, helmets and on car windows or bumpers all the time. These stickers live outside, in the harshest of conditions, and yes they are 100% waterproof.  There’s really no better testimony for weatherproofness.  So if you’re looking for some waterproof stickers in NZ, then we are your people.

Waterproof stickers – option 1: vinyl decals for bold single colours, black and white.

Vinyl decals are 100% waterproof and lasts years outdoors. Our vinyl decals are custom cut from sheets of coloured vinyl. White is the best colour for windows, but there is a large range of stock colours to choose from. These are typically what we make for the NZ ski resorts such as the ones we did for Tūroa, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables below:

Waterproof stickers nz – option 2: printed full colour vinyl.

Printed on high quality vinyl stock, these are 100% waterproof and also lasts years outdoors.  These are printed with UV inks, and typically are laminated. We use a CMYK process that allows for full colour print, and also pantone matching of colours. We can cut custom shapes easily with this process.  These are good for small or varied runs, where you need them to last or take a beating. A laminate coat on your waterproof vinyl sticker will add impact damage and UV protection.  Laminates are highly recommended, and to be honest we don’t print many without them. We can do the laminate coating in gloss or matte to suit your desired finish.  Here’s some we did for The Remarkables, and some other outdoor-beating, waterproof sticker needing customers:

Waterproof stickers nz – option 3: screen printed bumper stickers.

These are the most high quality vinyl stickers we can do, so again 100% waterproof.  The use of solid inks and the screen printing gives a great finish that can be pantone matched easily. These run in large numbers and ideal for bumper stickers, retail stickers or promo that you want to last. These will last years outside, and are super economic when run in large numbers. There is a one-off setup cost for these that is removed from future sticker orders. Waterproof stickers option 4: full colour printed and presized for cost-efficiency.

These waterproof stickers are more suitable for packaging, or cheap promo. However, with the waterproof upgrade option they will last in the rain and sun for around 4-6 months, give or take.  This depends on where you install them…. probably not the best for sticking on your surfboard, boat or kayak 😜 So not the best durability in an outdoor environment, but they will hold up against the elements for a while.  They come in lots of 1000, and are a good, cheap way to get a message out there.  However, if you want something to last years outside, then these are not the right product for you.  Here’s some examples of our presized waterproof stickers we’ve done recently:
