Clock face stickers for Paceracer
We were recently involved in a super cool, unique project making clock face stickers for Paceracer Watch Company. Paceracer Watch Company are a Boutique New Zealand watch manufacturer, hand producing modern and contemporary watches – and now clocks. Each piece is designed, engineered and hand-built. Paceracer’s design ethos is to achieve beauty in raw simplicity, through every corner of the brand. Their work is something for New Zealand to be proud of and it’s been a privilege to work with them on this project.
Brett Band, Paceracer’s founder and designer, was recently commissioned by Akarana Golf Course in Auckland to engineer two custom clocks for their clubhouse. The funds for this project were kindly donated by Brian Treacy, who has been a long-standing member of the club – for 75 years!
Custom clock face stickers
When Brett contacted us about the possibility of us making some custom clock face stickers, we instantly jumped on board. Paceracer hadn’t made any clocks before, let alone two giant clocks that would spend their lifetime outside being exposed to all the elements. So, from a design and manufacture perspective, it was a big step into the unknown with a significant investment in resources being put on the line. But what an awesome opportunity!? Being golf-nerds ourselves, and generally into people doing cool stuff and extending themselves, we were super keen to get involved.
We met with Brett and discussed ideas, stock options and timelines. The manufacture process quickly got underway, with Brett updating us as it progressed. Being a completely hand-made process, the manufacture of these custom clocks involved many highly focused and dedicated man-hours, all of which was necessary in order to achieve a high quality result.
What stock did we use for the clock face stickers?
We made, supplied and installed custom stickers for both the face and the rim of these clocks.
- For the face – we made custom decal stickers using a high-quality, long life, black vinyl which is built to last even outside in the blazing sun. These were applied and then sealed using a heat gun to increase the longevity of the vinyl and ensure a solid adhesion to the clock face. With long-term exposure to the sun, we needed to be sure that the vinyl would last as long as humanly possible!
- For the rim – we made silver decal stickers to go on the rim of the clock using a reflective stock. This stock looks amazing when illuminated by lights and really makes the Paceracer Watch Company branding ‘pop’.
Here’s a pic we took during the clock face sticker install – it required highly precise measuring and a lot of green tape to hold the sticker in the right place!
Unveiling the masterpieces
We were also lucky enough to be invited to the offical unveiling ceremony that took place on the golf course grounds last month. We stood by and watched Brian Treacy pull away the sheet to reveal the clocks that he had funded the commission of. It was great to see him and his family so proud of their donation, one which enhances the clubhouse for all members and visitors to enjoy for many years to come.
